چکیده

Thiomers are the polymers modified for the mucoadhesive properties and other additive properties by incorporating thiol moieties in the backbone of the unmodified polymeric chain by exchange reactions or simple oxidation reactions. Drug that are less soluble and permeable can be complexed with thiomers for their increased absorption through the mucosal membranes by increase in contact time and prolonged stay in body due to mucoadhesion. Immobilization of thiol group therefore increases the mucoadhesive properties of the modified polymer by 2-140 folds. The prepared thiomers are characterized and made stable by different techniques. Thiomers also give the controlled delivery of the active in the body. Different polymers that are modified by thiolation are chitosan, polyacrylic acid, sodium alginate, sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, guar gum etc. Thiomeric formulations are a challenge to deliver drugs with low therapeutic compatibility. Microand nanopreparations containing thiomers can be prepared by different techniques such as covalent crosslinking, insitu gelation, radical emulsion polymerization, emulsification etc. Nowadays thiomers have wide range of applications as a promising pharmaceutical excipient in the evaluating era of pharmaceutical technology.

Quantum Particle-Trajectories and Geometric Phase

“Particle”-trajectories are defined as integrable dxμdp μ = 0 paths in projective space. Quantum states evoluting on such trajectories, open or closed, do not delocalise in (x, p) projection, the phase associated to the trajectories being related to the previously known geometric (Berry) phase and to the Classical Mechanics action. High Energy Physics properties of states evoluting on “particle...

Pharmaceuticals in the environment: scientific evidence of risks and its regulation.

During the past two decades scientists, regulatory agencies and the European Commission have acknowledged pharmaceuticals to be an emerging environmental problem. In parallel, a regulatory framework for environmental risk assessment (ERA) of pharmaceutical products has been developed. Since the regulatory guidelines came into force the German Federal Agency (UBA) has been evaluating ERAs for hu...

O-17: Female Genital Mutilation: A Curse or Blessing among Women of Reproductive Age in Nigeria

Background: Female genital mutilation (FGM) practice is mostly carried out by traditional circumcisers, who often play other central roles in communities, such as attending childbirths. Increasingly, FGM is also performed by health care providers. However, FGM is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. The study investigates a broad cross-cultural study...

Hazard assessment for a pharmaceutical mixture detected in the upper Tennessee River using Daphnia magna

Widespread use of pharmaceuticals has resulted in mixture concentrations ranging from mg/L in effluent to µg/L concentrations in surface water. In a 2008 study, 13 pharmaceuticals, ranging in amounts from 0.0028 to 0.1757 µg/l, were identified in the Tennessee River, USA and its tributaries. In order to address the need for risk assessment of environmentally relevant pharmaceutical mixtures, <e...
